Indonesia has Cassava War!

Have you ever watched tomato war on foreign TV channel? It seems exciting and crazy. I can imagine what I will be in the middle of a war like that. Fox sauced tomato. Hehehe..

Btw, Indonesia has that kind of event too. But in here, they don't use tomato, since tomato price is rising everyday. Instead, they use cassava. In Indonesia, cassava is called "Ketela". The cassava war is part of a series of event called "Festiv-All Tela Indonesia 2011".

Take note that on the 10th of July, USD will held its monthly event with theme: Phytagoras Foodism. What is Phytagoras Foodism? Eww, can't provide you with detailed explanation. But as far as my knowledge, it derived from Phytagoras who is famous for his Theorem (a2 + b2 = c2). Believe it or not, he has certain way of life, influenced by this theorem for food philosophy and some Ancient Greeks took it as a way of life! It's called "Phytagoreans".

Confuse? You're not alone, me too!

This time, the menu will be based on Phytagoras concept and cooked by a lovable lady. The ingredients? It surely will be a surprise! Besides, you'll  be presented by a presentation about this unique concept. (NB: if you're so curious about this, it's Google-able actually! Hehehee..)

Prepare your time on July 10th, from 13.00-15.00 and book fast. Since the capacity is only for 40 people. Have I mention the location? Not yet. It's a secret 'till D-1. Only HINTS are available for you:

Beside Hongkong, Jakarta is the only USD movement in Asia. In Indonesia, it's established by Lisa Virgiano under the name Azanaya.

Azanaya comes from Sanscrete means to have passion for food. They gather people who is passionate with food to try some variety of food which they possibly can't find by themselves. The event is held secretly, with mysterious invitation to certain people, containing the date and area for the event without exact information about the place and food. The place ranged from a ghetto complex, apartment basement, art galleries, local house, public park, or even a floating deck to watch the sunset near the bay area. They choose the venue that brings uniqueness to the whole theme. They'll surely not serve common dishes. What makes it so special is they will NOT tell you the venue and menu in advance.

Why they make it so? Simply because they want to give people an alternative dining experience, but only for people who are really craving for it.

In order to celebrate their second anniversary, USD would like to invite you to their celebration humbly, because they believe that To Have Fun is Beyond Money!! It is originated in Scotland, where they do it every year to celebrate Scottish and Celtic culture&heritage. When it was held for the first time in Jakarta on 1975, the committee aimed to make this a melting pot event between expatriates and Indonesian and give them an unforgettable experience of Scottish Highland games. With its long history and participants, it probably becomes the biggest Highland event in the Southern Hemisphere.

Jakarta Highland Gathering consists of series of events, starting from concerts and other pre-events are held in some venues. The peak event is divided into two days. On 28 May it's mostly about Sports for Children, while on 29, it's open for public and all family member. Nanny's Pavillion: We Love Tuna!!

Last Saturday, me and my friends wandering around Pacific Place Mall after attending a seminar at @america. We're starving and my friend, a Pacific Place adventurer, suggested us to try Nanny's Pavillion. She recommend baked rice tuna, and that's what I ordered.

Once I ate it, everything felt melted, starting from my tongue down to the belly and ended at my heart. Hmmmm~~ It consists of melting cheese, melting tuna and balanced with grainy rice, all of them formed a perfect combination to satisfy your appetite.  Seems like they baked the rice and tuna in the inner plate and then give the second plate so we can eat safely. The baked tuna really deserved four thumbs up.

Besides me, my friends have different menus for their lunch.Check this too:

The Story of Poke Rice, alias Nasi Toel~

Last night, my mom went home with a box of rice from an event. It's very common and habitual that my mom brought food home and we'll eat together. That time, my mom bring a small box of rice, named "Nasi Toel". I was supremely interested of the menu for its unique name and unusual packaging. When I opened the box, I found square shaped rice, with no sight of complimentary food. Then you have to "poke" the rice and find the side dishes inside. It's just  like Bakpao, you can find the filling as a layer inside the dough. When I taste it, it felt like a blend of dishes.

Nasi Toel
I am curious to the heart with this menu. So I called the owner just now, named Angel. She explained to me about the variety of Nasi Toel menu.
