Save Tidung - GMT2

Have you ever go to Tidung Island? What do you think of it? A clean and beautiful island with romantic love bridge?

You have only seen the surface! Behind all the beauties, lies the other side of tourism: trash, poverty and of course, environmental damage.

Gabung Mulung Tidung (GMT)/ Join to Clean Tidung is a movement which gather people, together clean Tidung from trash, give books donation for the local children, mangrove cultivation and cube cultivation.

The first activity will be done together with local government, tourists, native children and islander. This is very important for Tidung since it is a tourism destination which got trash from Jakarta's river and tourists ALL THE TIME. The second activity is carried out to encourage native children's education for the islander's better future. The third activity is a fun and care event held out to give us knowledge and introduction to environment care. Thousands of mangrove seeds has been prepared for this event. Last, the term cube cultivation may sounds new to your ear. Don't worry, new things are sexy. Did you ever notice that every time you go snorkel to the middle of the sea, the ships have to release their anchor to the sea. It hurts the corals. Here, cube stones can be used as the replacement of anchor. From what I read in Naked Traveller, in Republic of Palau, a country in the middle of nowhere, eh.. in the middle of Micronesia actually :P the boats are forbid to use anchor. In Indonesia, one of the biggest host for corals in the world, there is no awarenesss of that. It's a pity, but this is something we should work out.

Through this movement, it's hoped that Tidung will stay clean and stand as a favourite tourism destination.

Beside environment care activities, this event offer a wide range of fun and exciting activities you can do. Starting from snorkeling with tiny and colourfull fish, jump from the legendary Love Bridge, and take your narsistic pictures. Moreover, you can get a chance to appear on national media; Trans TV, Metro TV, ANTV, Kompas.com, Detik.com, GenFM and many moree.. They are there to get pictures too!

Enjoying West Java on the Railway - Bandung Trip [1]

Last week is refreshing timeee.. I went to Bandung with my mom in a group of people. I'll tell the story in three separated post, so just wait.

We departed from Jakarta by train and come home by train too. Why do we choose train as our transportation mode?   In this case, train is not our mode of transportation, but our chosen way to enjoy West Java as a whole.
They have one coach painted with batik picture outside. Cool!
From my experience travelling to other province in Java, each province has their own unique characteristic and thus, resulted in different "best way" to enjoy the area to the fullest. In my opinion, Central and East Java is best be enjoyed by wheeled transportation; by car or bus. You can try North Coast Way (Pantura) and sightseeing the rich culture offered along the way. Yogyakarta is best be reach by wheeled transportation too, because there are lots of interesting city you can stop by in your way.

West Java is totally different. What makes it different is the landscape of the area. It consists of mountains mostly so the land road has to adjust itself to the landscape and so does the railway. Moreover, by using train, we can see the stunning view from above (the railway is higher than the road) and feel the breathtaking old fashioned railway and bridges from the Dutch colonialism era.
